Lash Extensions vs Lash Lift
If you’re trying to decide between a lash lift and lash extensions, the first question I always ask my clients is: How confident are you in following the aftercare instructions we’ll provide?
Lash Extensions
Lash extensions are perfect if you’re looking for an instant boost in length and volume that can last up to 4 weeks. They create a full, dramatic look without the need for daily mascara or lash curling.
However, proper aftercare (full instruction will be provided after your appointment) is crucial. Neglecting it can lead to poor retention, potential eye infections, disruption of your natural lash growth cycle, and even damage to your natural lashes. If you’re ready to commit to the aftercare routine, lash extensions are a fantastic option for you!
Lash Lift
A lash lift, on the other hand, enhances the natural lashes you already have by lifting and curling them with a safe chemical solution. It’s a great choice if you want a more natural look with low maintenance.
To get the most out of your lash lift, I recommend continuing to use your favorite lash growth serum—this can give us more flexibility with your lash lift design! Other than avoiding water on your lashes for the first 24 hours and brushing them twice a day, there’s not much upkeep required. Lash lift will last anywhere up to 5 ~ 8 weeks.
Cysteamine-Based vs Traditional TGA-Based Lash Lift
Traditional TGA-Based Lash Lift (Express Lash Glam)
- What They Are: These treatments use ammonium thioglycolate (TGA) to break down the bonds in your lashes, allowing them to be reshaped.
- Processing Time: Typically, these lifts take about 10-15 minutes.
- Considerations: While effective, TGA could be a bit harsh, especially for those who get lash lift regularly and those with finer lashes, potentially leading to extra dryness or damage.
Cysteamine-Based Lash Lifts (Luxe Lash Glow, Elite Lash Radiance, Signature Lash Shine)
- What They Are: These treatments utilize cysteamine hydrochloride, a gentler alternative that modifies the bonds in your lashes without the strong effects of TGA.
- Processing Time: The process might take a bit longer compared to TGA-based solutions.
- Benefits: Designed to be less damaging, reducing the risk of over-processing and maintaining healthier lashes.
Can you use oil products around the eye area after getting lash extensions?
Absolutely! With our specialized adhesive, you can confidently use oil-based products around your eyes after getting lash extensions. As a former lash extension enthusiast who disliked using cotton pads to remove makeup, I understand the struggle. That's why I've sourced the best adhesive on the market, ensuring strong retention while allowing the use of oil cleansers and face oils near your eyes.
Do you offer lash extensions infills?
Yes, we offer lash extension infills upon request within 2 weeks of your full set appointment. While regular infills might be convenient and reasonable for maintaining the fullness of your lash extensions, here at HRK, they serve as occasional touch-ups for special events. If you have something special approaching and desire an extra boost to your lashes, scheduling a touch up can enhance their volume and appearance, ensuring you look your best for the event.
However, to ensure the health and cleanliness of your lashes, we recommend a monthly removal and deep cleansing. Over time, even with diligent care, small amounts of dirt and dust can accumulate between the extensions and the roots of your natural lashes, potentially leading to irritation or, in severe cases, infection. At HRK, we offer this removal service for just $5, prioritizing your long-term lash health.
I have monolids but can I still get lash extensions or lash lift?
Absolutely! Monolids are a stunning feature, and it's disheartening that some artists aren't familiar with enhancing them. At our studio, we offer over 200 different lash lift shields to suit your unique eye shape and desired lift, ensuring a perfect result every time. For lash extensions, we will go through a full eye analysis at your first appointment and see what curls and lengths will work the best for you to comfortably wear extensions until they last!
I have very sensitive skin but I want to give a shot to your services. Do you offer a patch test?
Of course, we do! Flick us a message anytime x
What's the difference between your regular dye and hybrid dye and how do I know which one is suitable for my brows?
Regular Dye: This one's great if you're already happy with the shape and fullness of your brows and just want to boost their color. It tints only the hairs, leaving your skin untouched, and the color can last up to 4 weeks.
Hybrid Dye: If your brows have some sparse areas or you want a more defined look, hybrid dye is the way to go! It stains both the brow hairs and the skin beneath, giving a fuller appearance. The skin stain can last up to 7 days, and the hair color stays vibrant for up to 6 weeks.
Think about your brow goals: if you're aiming for a subtle enhancement, go with the regular dye. For a bolder, more filled-in look, longer lasting results, then hybrid dye is your best bet.
Is brow lamination suitable for everyone?
Brow lamination is NOT suitable for everyone!! Please read below!
Do any of these apply to you?
If you have:
- Sensitive skin
- Psoriasis or eczema
- Recent cosmetic tattoos on your brows
- Are taking any skin medications
- Recently had laser or microdermabrasion treatments
- Recently had a chemical peel
- Sunburned skin
- Brow lamination less than 8 weeks ago
Unfortunately, brow lamination is not recommended for you. Your safety and skin health come first! 🖤
Freshly trimmed brows? Wait before booking!
We recommend letting your brows grow out for at least 2-3 weeks before your lamination appointment. Why? The solutions don’t work well with short brow hairs, which can cause them to poke out after the treatment. Ideally, your brow hair should be at least 7mm long for the procedure to be effective. Don’t worry—after lamination, we can always give your brows a trim for a polished finish.
Brows with significant overplucking or gaps?
While lamination works best on fuller brows, clients with gaps or sparse brows may find that the gaps become more noticeable after the procedure. If this sounds like you, we highly recommend pairing your lamination with hybrid dye for the best results. Looking for a long-term solution? Cosmetic tattooing might be a great option to fill in your brows more permanently.
Know before you book—brow lamination is not a one-size-fits-all treatment, and we’re here to guide you to the best option for your brow goals x
Is aftercare required for brow services?
Absolutely! Proper aftercare is essential to maintain the best results from our brow services. Here's what you need to know:
For Regular and Hybrid Dye:
- Keep Them Dry: Avoid getting your brows wet for the first 24 hours post-appointment. This allows the dye to fully develop, ensuring longer-lasting color.
For Brow Lamination:
- Initial Care: Similar to dye treatments, keep your brows dry for 24 hours after the procedure to let the solutions set properly.
- Hydration: Once you've washed them, apply the nourishing oil we provide to keep your brows healthy and ready for your next session in 8 weeks (aftercare oil will be handed to you for free at your first appointment)
- Maintenance: Brush your brows twice daily to maintain their shape; otherwise, the hairs may become unruly.
Following these simple steps will help keep your brows looking fabulous and healthy between appointments!
